This is still a young industry so there's a wide range in billing rates. The Pricing Guide for Web Services, Second Edition, found pricing from $25 - $250 per hour for Web work, and a single Web page from $30 - $1,500. (Whoever's paying $1,500 per page, please call me so I can save you a few bucks.) As a rule, you get what you pay for. An experienced designer and developer are worth their weight in gold.
Here are some rough costs:
You'll need a domain name for about $36 that will last for two years before it needs renewed. A simple site between 3-5 pages could cost between $300 and $1,200. A larger site between 6-15 pages will usually cost between $800 and $3,600. If it's an eCommerce site with an admin section you can add $800 or more to the final cost. Add-ons such as bulletin boards, multi-media, content management, online newsletters and custom forms typically cost extra as well.
Ongoing costs include hosting fees that can range from $10 - $25 per month. Regular updates to your site (which is a good idea) will be another $75 per hour or $150 per page depending on the amount of content involved.[/i] _________________ JJohnston
